This is a classic pentominos puzzle with a very battleship-like clue design.Puzzle parasite calls it penta lines , awkward name. For the first puzzle of this type,I thought why not use all dead-end clues ,probably just because it looks good.
This needs at least a thirteenth clue. If I assume the bottom clue belongs to a P, there are two solutions with V/W interchangeable. Line by line and left to right, the clues would belong to X, NU, T??, ZI, FL, Y, P.
Hmm. Three things: there's now the alternate assignment X, NU, TPF, ZI, VY, W, L; the preview image no longer pops out to full-size; and the clue that used to be in R8C2 left a nub in that spot.
I saw this type for the first time on the 10th WPC in Brno in 2001. In Hungary we call it Czech Pentomino. I think this one is your most elegant puzzle. It is a very enjoyable puzzle. Congratulation.

ReplyDeleteThe clue for X was wrongly placed on R8C2.This works without any more clues.
