LITS contest - continued

Puzzle uploaded at 6:30 GMT

I had some nice ideas, one of which was of scrapping it.I hope i will get some
motivation to upload it tomorrow. So it is scheduled for early tomorrow(30th) 06:30 GMT.Note that this puzzle is not themed in any way.Submissions will be accepted for the whole day.

Fillomino( garbage collector)

Rules: Regular fillomino rules apply.Rectangular areas are not allowed.

Country snake - hard

This is my favourite snake variation(also known as Snake.BY).
Rules: The snake occupies exactly 3 cells in every outlined region.Head and tail of the snake lie in the shaded regions.

snake egg - hard

This one does not include a head and tail for the clues. It is not very hard though.

Rules:Place a snake without touching itself, except diagonally. The remaining cells should form different areas of different sizes, every area having only one numbered cell, the number indicating the size of the area. Also, one more area of unknown different size should be formed.

Minesweeper tapa - medium

This is one of the four tapa variations i created.

Rules: Regular tapa rules apply.Place the given number of mines in the white cells.Cells with a single digit indicate a tapa block or the number of mines around that cell, but not both.Multiple-digit clues indicate only tapa blocks.

Slitherlink

I tried to make it logically solvable. This is 80:20 logical:trial-n-error.The ending on the entire far right is a bit tough.

window tapa - easy

Another hybrid.I like the new puzzle windows very much. Not that i did not want to post a classic windows puzzle. The diagonal touching constraint and no 2x2 square come up very often in the logic path of a windows puzzle, though the path in the puzzle shown below is not guided by any of the two.

Rules: Shade some cells such that each outlined 2x2 square contains 2 edge-adjacent shaded cells. All shaded cells form a wall of connected cells, without any 2x2 square of all shaded or all white cells. The wall cannot touch itself diagonally,or overlap the clue cells,or include an island of white cells. The clues work like regular tapa clues.

fillomino (connected)

Rules: All areas of prime size form a single connected group.Same with all composite-sized areas.Regular fillomino rules hold good.

LIliTS- hard

Latin pointers - medium

I liked this puzzle when i found it first on a blog.

Rules: Place digits 0-3 such that every row.column contains each digit exactly once.If a cell has an arrow,it indicates that the arrow is pointing to as many digits as the digit written in that cell.

Fillomino: Garbage collector

This is my favourite fillomino variation. It lets a variety of logic creep in.The logic with " no 1s and 2s" is definitely there, but there is much more than that.

LIliTS - hard

So this was liked. Here is another..

Grand prix - hard

Another of my older ideas.

Rules: Draw a closed loop through all cells moving horizontally or vertically, not intersecting itself.Numbers show the number of turns in the four neighbouring cells.

City layout - medium

Invented by nikoli ,with the title "chocona".

Rules: Shade some cells to form various areas of shaded cells. The areas can only be rectanglar in shape.Numbers inside the outlined regions indicate how many cells in that region will be shaded. If there is no number, any number of cells can be shaded.

Edit: Edited to correct ambiguity in bottom half.

LIliTS - easy

This is a new puzzle(33rd new variation/classic from me i think).Looks a bit similar to LITS.I am not sure if the title is good enough.

Rules: Place a 3-cell or 4-cell polyomino in every outlined region. In the end,all black cells must be interconnected to form a wall of contiguous cells.Figures of same size cannot share an edge.No 2x2 square can have all black cells. The wall cannot occupy cells having an 'x'.

Pentomino areas - easy

I had seen this type before.I liked it very much.

Rules: Place the full set of twelve pentominos ,one in each outlined area.Rotations/reflections are allowed, and pentominos cannot touch each other.

Salesman - medium

Another of my puzzle ideas.Surprisingly I have not seen this anywhere although it is a
simple variation.

Rules: Draw a loop through some cells moving horizontally or vertically, which does not intersect with itself, and visits as many cells in a row/col as the clue outside that row/column indicates.Every circle will be visited.

Penta battleships - medium

This is a classic pentominos puzzle with a very battleship-like clue design.Puzzle parasite calls it penta lines , awkward name.
For the first puzzle of this type,I thought why not use all dead-end clues ,probably just because it looks good.

Edit: puzzle edited in the bottom left to fix.

Fillomino : Touchy

A new variation.

Rules: Usual fillomino rules.Additionally, every polyomino of size n shares an edge with atleast one other polyomino of size n+-1.

Fillomino

Anuraag's island

Paint some cells to form a single island of connected cells. The cells with numbers(houses) are part of this island. The numbers indicate how many unnumbered cells can be reached from that cell by moving horizontally or vertically. Numbered cells block access. All grey cells are part of the island. Every house has a white cell (sea) adjacent to it in atleast one direction.
Below is an example with its solution.

Across the borders - hard

This is a nikoli puzzle and is more commonly known as Norinori.

There are many interesting patterns I can see with these simple rules. The puzzle down here is quite tricky. All areas are atleast 3 cells large.

Rules: Shade some cells such that every outlined region has exactly two shaded cells.Every shaded cell is edge-adjacent with exactly one other shaded cell.

Akari - hard

Tetraconnect- hard

Rules: Place all seven tetraminos into the grid, once each,IF a cell contains a number,it indicates how many tetraminos are diagonally adjacent to that cell.Clue cells cannot be enmpty. No two tetraminos can be placed edge-adjacent.tetraminos do not overlap black cells.

Anuraag's island - medium

I like the genre very much.More often, when i like a type of puzzle,i tend to try finding ways of varying it.I think this puzzle has a lot of space for interesting variations and i am presenting the best way i can see of varying it.

Rules:Fill in some cells to form a single island. The cells with numbers(houses) are part of this island. The numbers indicate how many unnumbered cells can be reached from that cell by moving horizontally or vertically. Numbered cells block access. All grey cells are part of the island. Every house has a white cell (sea) adjacent to it in atleast one direction.

Nurikabe - medium

Island - easy

This is a relatively new type of puzzle.

Rules: Fill in some cells to form a single island. The cells with numbers are part of this island. The numbers indicate how many unnumbered cells can be reached from that cell by moving horizontally or vertically. Numbered cells block access.

Between Tents and trees

This is a hybrid between slitherlink and tents. The new rule is, all trees must be inside the loop and all tents outside. No tents are given.

Nurikabe - medium

This is a nurikabe.

Serendipity - easy

I like constructing puzzles that work inwards from the corners (specially nurikabe) and leave plenty of unclued space in the centre.
I dont know how the title justifies the rules of the puzzle ,but this is how it was called by the organizers of OAPC. I interpret this as a tetromino minesweeper with constrained tapa-like clues.

Rules: Place all the 7 tetrominos into the white squares without touching, not even diagonally. The clues indicate sizes of blocks of contiguous black cells around the cell with the clue.Figures cannot occupy the clues.

Recoverable Tapa - medium

I had introduced this variation in a test early this year, and it is appearing at the 20th WPC too, under the name Tapa restoration.
The nature of this puzzle allows you to use all single digit clues.

Rules: Exactly one digit has been removed from every tapa clue.Find the digits to Restore
the tapa.

Fillomino classic medium

This works out delightfully different.

Monday, October 24, 2011

Dotted Shikaku

Rules: Divide the grid into rectangles that do not overlap. Each rectangle contains exactly one number which equals the area of the rectangle.Unnumbered dots do not contribute to the calculation of areas.

Nurikabe - medium

Sum lines - medium

Fill the grid with numbers 1 through 8 such that clues outside the grid indicate the sums of groups numbers along each line segmen in that direction. The sums are given in the order they appear in the corresponding rows.Numbers cannot repeat in any row/col.

Fillomino :Garbage collector

This is a regular fillomino, except the polyominos cannot be rectangular.

Non-consecutive fillomino

This fillomino has an additional constraint where consecutive sized polyominos also cannot share an edge.

Edited: The broken bottom-left is fixed.

Deadomino

This is "one per row/column" fillomino renamed to a better(really?) sounding one.The new restriction on the classical version was (as he says with an element of doubt) introduced by anderson on his blog, the url of which looks like a substring of possibly one of the earliest(or even current)passwords of his email.

Tetraconnect - easy

Rules: Place all seven tetraminos into the grid, once each,IF a cell contains a number,it indicates how many tetraminos are diagonally adjacent to that cell.Clue cells cannot be enmpty. No two tetraminos can be placed edge-adjacent.

Magic snail - medium

Enter each number from 1 to 3 into some of the cells such that every row and col contains every number exactly once, and the numbers appear in the sequence 1-2-3..1-2-3.. along the labyrinth going from outside to inside.

Coded Math tapa - hard

Math tapa itself is an encoded form of tapa where the clues are results of mathematical operations on the individual digits.I am presenting a variant that encodes these results with letters.Same letters represent same numbers, and different letters represent different numbers.

LITS - hard

This one is terribly hard, yet very nice to work with.Let me know your solving time.

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Mochinyoro - medium

A nikoli type, and a cousin of nurikabe, mochinyoro is a very interesting puzzle. The constraint on black cells in particular, make it stand out.
Rules:Group the white cells into some rectangles, all connected to each other diagonally. No two orthogonally touching white cells can belong to different rectangles.Every rectangle contains at most one clue, which equals the area of the rectangle. Some rectangles may not contain a clue, which means the area can be any value.Black cells cannot form a rectangle.
